Miller Art Museum Invitational

  This painting, an abstract expressive piece, is the accumulative result of my experiences while sketching, painting, photographing, and hiking on the many Door County Land Trust sites. My self-imposed goal was to capture the multiple layers of birth, death, and rebirth, as well as the spirituality of such a soulful place. I composed a  variety of painting techniques, balancing each new stroke one off of the other, until this art piece felt finished.

Landtrust Show @ The Miller

For several months I have been preparing for the November 2012 Door County Landtrust Exhibit at the  Miller Art Museum, in Sturgeon Bay, WI.

This has been both difficult and enjoyable all at the same time. Mostly, there is so much information out there, from fallen trees, leaves, branches, to new sprouts, dapple light, no light...Oh, and bugs. I have spent many enjoyable hours sketching on these sites. It has been meditative. Now, in my studio, I have an abundant amount of studies and 4 paintings in progress.

Still, the most difficult thing I am challenged with is that of simplifying.

Giorgio Morandi is an artist I hold in great regard. Boy could he ever simplify and design. My hero.
